The Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the hi-tech mass copying racket in the entrance examination for admission into the prestigious Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER ), Chandigarh, have found the roots of the scam in the Telugu film industry as well. The CBI officials in Chandigarh have found that Dr Kota Gangadhar Reddy, one of the kingpins in the racket - has turned out to be a Telugu film producer. He launched his own film production company - Kota Film Corporation (KFC). Early this year, he produced a high-voltage action film in Telugu - "Nandeeshwarudu," starring Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, grand-son of Telugu Desam Party founder-president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N T Rama Rao, but the film failed to click at the box office. Bangalore, Nov 23, 2012, DHNS : Test evokes mixed response from candidates The newly introduced National Entrance cum Eligibility Test for Post Graduate courses (NEET-PG) to gain entry into postgraduate medical courses in the country commenced at 33 centres, including Bangalore, on Friday. The response of Bangalore candidates to the test was, however, not that positive. The NEET-PG is a national entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) with the aim of centralising all postgraduate medical examinations in the country. The test will go on until December 6 and it is the first computer-based test as far as common medical entrance tests in the country are concerned. No date announced for when exam will be reconducted.   Four days after the CBI arrested 16 persons involved in leaking the MD/MS entrance exam paper and large scale cheating, the PGI authorities on Wednesday decided to cancel the entrance examination.   In the absence of the director of the institute, Dr Y K Chawla, sources said the decision was taken in a meeting attended by senior functionaries of the institute including dean Dr Amod Gupta, officiating director Dr Vinay Sakhuja besides deputy director (administration) Chetan P S Rao and others.   Sources said that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the fact that since it is not certain as to how many candidates were beneficiaries of the paper leakage, it would be in the interest of all the genuine candidates, to cancel the exam. The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) today cancelled its MD/MS entrance examination held here last week after a cheating racket was unearthed by CBI. " In the wake of an FIR filed by the CBI and a copy of the same received by PGI authorities, it was decided by the administration that the entrance examination for January 2013 session, which was held on November 10, would be scrapped to avoid litigation and other complications," PGIMER spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar said here. The examination for holding the entrance test for the MD (doctor of medicine)/MS (master of surgery) is now likely to be conducted in the second week of December as per availability of centres for the entrance examination, she said. She said that in the absence of PGIMER Director Dr Y K Chawla, a meeting was chaired by the institute's acting director, Dr Vinay Sakhuja and attended by senior functionaries, after which the decision to cancel the examination was taken. CHANDIGARH: A training in ventriloquism — a handy tool for new age comedians to change their voice and make it look as if coming from elsewhere — may have helped the seven girls who went as decoy medical students disguise their communication with the PGI paper leak scam accused, P Guirivi Reddy, on Saturday, said top officials of the CBI. "When we caught the girls, there was a lot of humming noise and cheek movements that looked suspicious in the rooms. It suggests that they had practised the art of talking by hiding their lip movements," said CBI DIG Mahesh Aggarwal. On Saturday, the CBI had recovered a combination of mobile phone and bluetooth accessory from the girls' undergarments and tresses. According to the investigating agency, these girls, who were communicating from their separate examination centres with Reddy, had restricted their communication to a fixed set of words and monosyllables. The busting of an Andhra Pradesh based gang, by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) involved in cheating at postgraduate examination entrance of PGIMER in Chandigarh, revealed that the paper was actually leaked to several other students and most of them hailing from Andhra Pradesh. A senior official of the CBI confirmed that the number of students who were made to cheat can be much more than the estimated. Earlier reports suggested that there were 20 students but the CBI officials insist that they are going through the intricate details of the gang and their communication with the perspective candidates involved in the scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has found that the number of persons who benefited from the gang which used hi-tech gadgets for cheating in the entrance exam for the postgraduate courses in Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) was much more than initially thought. While the central agency arrested seven "candidates" who had facilitated the leak of paper, others who benefited from the whole racket - mostly hailing from Andhra Pradesh -escaped arrest. However, they are under the CBI scanner. A senior CBI official confirmed that students who were part of the cheaters' racket could be more than the initial estimate of around 20. The racket kingpin P Gurivi Reddy had taken a huge amount from these candidates. CBI sources asserted that it was only after deeper probe that they came to know that the entire racket was orchestrated to help out several others, who managed to escape the CBI net during the raids. November 10, 2012 Seven medical students were allegedly caught on Saturday using hi-fi gadgets to cheat during a post-doctoral degree examination here, CBI official said to PG Times. Acting on a tip-off, CBI officials caught the girls from four separate centres when they were using sophisticated gadgets, including bluetooth, to cheat during the examinations for MD courses conducted by PGIMER, CBI’s DIG Mahesh Aggarwal said to PG Times. “We acted on a tip off and caught the girls, hailing from different parts of India, from four centres here. We also checked all the remaining seven centres where the examination was under progress. “The modus operandi adopted by the accused was that they were sending out question papers using these gadgets and answers were being passed back to them through the same route,” Aggarwal said to PG Times. The CBI has conducted raids at all 11 exam centers where the PGI was conducting the entrance exam for its MD and MS courses in Chandigarh. Sources said the CBI detained seven students who were using bluetooth devices during the exam for cheating. Sources also said that some middlemen have also been arrested. HYDERABAD: The AP High Court on Tuesday stopped the Medical Council of India (MCI) from going ahead with its National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for postgraduate (PG) medical courses for the academic year 2013. The test is scheduled to be held on Nov 23. The HC had in October stayed the same for undergraduate (UG) course. A division bench comprising Justices V Eswaraiah and N Ravi Shankar ordered a stay after hearing a plea by the state government which said it was aggrieved by the way MCI had planned NEET. The state government accused both the Centre and the MCI of ignoring the special rights conferred to Andhra Pradesh under Article 371(D) of the Constitution. Article 371(D) allows AP to have zone-wise reservations to help its backward areas. Additional advocate general KG Krishna Murthy told the bench that MCI's NEET notification would adversely affect the interests of students from the state.
